CORRECTION (Sep 1 2026): previously misattributed to Bob Kauflin's 2006 copyrighted "O Great God" — a title collision, not Brian's actual source. His cover is based on Carl Boberg's 1885 Swedish hymn "O Store Gud," the same hymn behind Stuart K. Hine's 1949 "How Great Thou Art" translation (a distinct, still-copyrighted work, not what this cover is based on). Both Boberg's text and its Swedish folk tune are public domain. CORRECTION: this entry previously identified the wrong song — a title collision with Bob Kauflin's 2006 Sovereign Grace Music worship song, also called "O Great God." Brian's cover is based on the actual original, not Kauflin's: Carl Boberg's Swedish-language poem "O Store Gud" (literally "O Great God"), the same 1885 hymn that Stuart K. Hine's far more famous 1949 English translation "How Great Thou Art" is built on. Boberg (1859-1940) wrote the words in 1885 walking home from church near Kronobäck, Sweden, after a thunderstorm over the Kalmar Strait subsided into calm; first published in Mönsterås Tidningen, 13 Mar 1886. The tune is an old, unattributed Swedish folk melody, first sung with Boberg's words in 1888; words and music published together in Sanningsvittnet, 16 Apr 1891. Both Boberg's text and the folk tune are public domain. Hine's "How Great Thou Art" English translation (finalized 1949, published in his magazine Grace and Peace) is a distinct, still-copyrighted work administered by Manna Music/Capitol CMG — not what Brian's cover is based on, and not to be confused with it. Other named English translations exist (E. Gustav Johnson's 1925 "O Mighty God," Avis B. Christiansen's 1956 "Lord, I Adore Thee," Joseph T. Bayly's 1957 InterVarsity version) but none match Brian's title or were confirmed as his source. No dedicated Wikipedia article exists for "O Store Gud" itself (confirmed absent) — linked above to the "How Great Thou Art" article, which covers the full Boberg/Hine history.
